The fantastic thing, though, is that American Radass (this is important) finds important moments on almost every song. Single "Bakefest at Piffany's" initially opened us up to the depth of this album with complex ambiguity in pulverizing walls of sound and lines like, "Love is bleaching bed sheets / Because we could never wait." Then closer "Heavy to the Touch (think about tonight, forget about tomorrow)" brings the sweet, sweet pain with guitars that are as schizophrenic as the part-time falsetto vocals. It's a fitting closer if only for the fact that it makes us not want to stop. Dads seem to have this ability to make us satisfied, yet unsure. They sing/yell, "Making land into stories, pictures mean memories / Until you won't recognize me." And that doesn't quite tell us anything concrete. But by being vague and introspective and slightly bizarre, it somehow makes even more sense. Forgive the philosophizing, but life isn't what we make it. It's, perhaps more simply and affectingly, what we think it should be. Sometimes our idealism is all we have. And if something like American Radass (this is important) is right, even the most idealistic of dreams are rooted in a harsh, ugly reality.

Este es uno de los grupos a los que mas cariño tengo hoy en día, ya defendí en estas páginas su anterior plástico (que dicen los jevis) e incluso tuve la osadía de proponerlo en un Primavera Vs Foro, creo que consiguió puntos negativos aunque ni siquiera existían pero yo soy un tipo tenaz y aquí sigo dándole a la tecla.
La personalidad de Aaron Weiss, este :
es algo muy particular. Tiene una imaginería propia de Elephant 6 y del regresado Magnum e incluso podríamos decir que como letrista es un más que digno aprendiz de aquel, yo creo que no está tan pa llá pero quien le de una oportunidad descubrirá muchas similitudes.
Con esa facilidad para la lírica ha confeccionado un disco conceptual sobre un accidente de tren en Montana en el siglo XIX repleto de animales de un circo itinerante.
Tal y como estáis pensando (alguno ha llegado hasta aquí?) cada canción está propuesta por un animal y las 10 historias son de a cada cual más loca, siempre con los grandes temas universales, bla, bla, bla, de fondo.
Su voz puede resultar o deliciosa o molesta, otro punto de encuentro con Magnum.
Musicalmente este grupo no ha salido de los parámetros post-hardcore que le propulsaron en sus inicios donde eran ciertamente mas oscuros y plomizos.
A nivel de base de fan quicir, no obstante su música debería estar abierta para gente con gustos más folk, aunque esa base rock no la pierden, y también les da un matiz particular.Yo creo que Aaaron conoció las setas y a partir de ahí se lió parpel.
Y ya está, como diría Jaimito con el amoniaco, a mi me gusta.

Aaron Weiss' imagination has always been rich, but he may have outdone himself this time on his band's (mewithoutYou) latest album. Free from the label constrains of Tooth & Nail, mewithoutYou set out to tackle the concept album, something that excited many fans considering Weiss' vivid and colorful lyricism. But I'd supposed very few, if any, were expecting Weiss and company to portray their eccentric sound through the viewpoint of talking bears, elephants, and more (oh my!). No, this isn't the sequel to The Wizard of Oz, but it is definitely the focal point of mewithoutYou's Ten Stories, arguably their strongest album yet.
There is no doubt that Ten Stories will be the greatest album ever written about talking circus animals surviving a train crash in 19th century Montana. All kidding aside, the lyrical themes presented throughout the eleven tracks are painted with a thick coat of metaphors and vague subtleties. Ten Stories is full of allegories and fables, continuing the trend they started on their last release t’s all crazy! it’s all false! it’s all a dream! it’s alright, only this time they mix in some of the aggression that was present on Brother, Sister.
While mewithoutYou is still as ambiguous as ever with their music, they've never been as creative and daring as they are on Ten Stories. Aaron Weiss continues to prove that he has an unique way with words that very few lyricists can match, as he is cleverly vague while maintaining an intimacy with listeners. We benefit as listeners and overall fans of music whenever there's a new mewithoutYou release, as they continue to write music that inspires as much as it challenges.
