Recorded in Portland, Oregon, with producer Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists), the album bears the fruits of a period of introspection & renewal: deeply lyrical songwriting, a newfound expressivity of voice, and, more than ever before, a daring synthesis of her broad musical influences into a powerfully individual artistic vision. "I stretched myself as a singer on this record and used voices I never have before as a writer," she explains. "A lot of the writing on this record happened in the dead of night, when spiders mend their webs, with an infant asleep in the next room… as a result, my writing became a secret again: illicit and my own."

produced by yuka c honda, and written by martha wainwright, 'come home to mama' (v2) is an emotional rollercoaster that dazzles throughout. recorded earlier this year in new york city, mostly at sean lennon's home studio, 'come home to mama' has the passionate angst of her 2005 debut coupled with the twisted pop of 2008's 'i know you're married but i've got feelings too'. in the past, martha worked with husband brad albetta but this time out chose yuka c. honda (cibo matto) to add a feminine touch. her husband, wilco guitarist nels cline, provides the musical thread throughout this captivating disc. guest musicians include thomas bartlett, keyboards; brad albetta, bass and drummer jim white.

Jessie Ware isn’t the new Sade. Sure, the South London chanteuse’s 2012 debut album, Devotion, is as sophisticated, smooth, and even sublimely sensuous as a Sade recording. But at the marrow of her poised performances is a woman with roots in dance music. Before going solo, Ware contributed vocals to a few songs from SBTRKT's eponymous album and the title track to dubstep producer Joker's 2011 debut long-player. In the opening title track here, she sings softly over a stark electro backdrop, just barely ramping up her vocals in the chorus to give a subtle R&B dynamic to the song’s structure. Even in the following single, “Wildest Moments”—where the beats pulse a bit harder and Ware hits her higher register—she lays back, eschewing vocal gymnastics for a demure style that makes Everything but the Girl’s Tracey Thorn seem like Mariah Carey. There are gripping moments in the similarly attractive “Running”, where she lets her voice off the leash to wail soulfully, but even then she prefers to exercise restraint and let the song’s hook do the grappling.

Me he encontrado este disco que de primeras parece un poco inofensivo pero que ya llevo escuchado dos veces seguidas, supongo que es un pop indie sin complicaciones, con algo de melancolía alrededor. El grupo lo forman Kevin Devine con músicos de Manchester Orquestra. Algo tiene.

Sólo quería (aparte de dar las gracias as usual) que el disco de Mazes "Mazes Blazes" no es el de los Mazes británicos que tocaron en Primavera Club, que son los de Chicago (que por lo visto llevan más discos y que estában antes). Me he cagado en la puta porque los otros me gustan mucho, pero luego los he escuchado y están de puta madre también
