Yo ese día voy a la Miró. Por cierto, el día 7 traen a Joe Bowie con Defunkt. No sé como estarán ahora, pero para quien no los conozca sus primeros discos causaron un gran revuelo en el gallinero (sobre todo el Thermonuclear Sweat) y sus conciertos aqui fueron explosivos, pero de verdad.
Reconozco mi total deuda con el tropicalismo. Nunca le he tomado con la suficiente atención como para poder tener un juicio sólido, soy mucho más de bossa nova y de los otros estilos brasileños. Pero siempre hay excepciones. Recuerdo con agrado los primeros discos de Gilberto Gil, a Tom Zé, Os Mutantes y alguno más (la culpa de que no me acabe de entrar Veloso es por haber oído alguno de sus trabajos más comerciales, nunca de los primeros…siempre hay tiempo). Pero si hay algún artista brasileño de esa época del cual me puedo considerar un casi fan es de JORGE BEN JOR. Lo divertido de ello es que lo descubrí gracias dos artistas tan dispares como son Rod Stewart (su “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy” es un calco de su pieza tema “Taj Mahal”) y Taj Mahal (que le agradeció el piropo con una canción llamada “Jorge Ben”), aunque, naturalmente, su tema “Mas Que Nada” ya forma parte del folclore musical mundial.
FORÇA BRUTA fue editado en 1970 y es el sexto disco que grabó con la compañía Phillips, donde editó seis discos más hasta 1976. Para este disco, Ben echo mano de tres elementos básicos: la guitarra acústica, el trío de percusionistas Mocotó (con estos dos elementos se basa el núcleo que él llamó “orgánico” del disco”) y una contundente producción orquestal a cargo de Manoel Barenbein. No hay instrumentos eléctricos y las influencias anglosajones están dosificadas en gotas. Pero lo importante es que tanto la labor de composición como el trabajo de realización del disco resultan muy notables. En el fondo las canciones son bastante sencillas y sin complejidades y este detalle hace que ellas entren a la primera, haciendo que el secuestro del oyente sea rápido. Y si esto no resulta importante, el elemento orquestal envuelve las canciones con un manto suave y precioso. Tratándose de música brasileña, estos arreglos resultan tan eficientes como los que realizó Creed Taylor para los discos de Jobim en CTI y, a fe mía, es que oír este disco en un atardecer veraniego debe ser una excitante experiencia.

Jaribu Afrobeat Arkestra is a Japanese instrumental band based in the musical style of afrobeat, drawing influence from Fela Kuti. Their first album, Afrosoundsystem was released in 2009 and inlcudes a solid lineup of traditional, yet innovative afrobeat grooves, carrying the legacy of Fela and bringing the music of Nigeria to the world
The album features a collection of solid afrobeat grooves that capture the mood of their live performances well. With a three-man horn section plus flute and plenty of percussion, the music has a rich multi-layered sound. After the intro, Secret Mission, a high-paced number that stands out even among the myriad of new afrobeat songs that have been made in the past few years in different corners of the globe. Days Of The Glory has a slower groove with the trademark shuffling drum sound and a great lolloping bassline that makes you want to move no matter what.
The other high points of the album include The Spirit Why Fela Fights, another slow groove with a great horn riff. This track chugs along nicely until about a minute from the end when the tempo changes to a funk workout that marks the transition into a cover of Fela's J.J.D., opening with percussion and some tight funky drumming that leads into some amazing flute work that drives the main part of the tune, with the horns coming in for the refrain.
Jaribu Afrobeat Arkestra put on an amazing show and are well worth catching live, but failing that you could do a lot worse than pick up a copy of AfroSoundSystem. Highly recommended.

Si lo habia visto lo de Rototom Sunsplash en Benicassin. Pero puff son muchos dias, aun siendo un cartelazo. Como dices lo han dejado de hacer en Italia por que la poli hacia redadas a la peña y les dejaba sin combustible a los rastas. Yo la verdad es que a festivales o me los montan en Madrid o el Primavera y el Funtastic. Ya tiene que ser un sarao de cojones. Como lo de Febrero en las Bahamas….
Os dejo uno de los mejores discos de DUB de siempre. Y uno de mis favoritos. Es uno de los discos con mas fantasia de sonidillos DUB que te puedes echar a los oidos. Mikey Dread hace un trabajo para sonreir y descubrir en cada escucha.

Five Alarm funk is an afro-funk orchestra from Vancouver, BC. The group has four percussionists, 2 guitars, a bass, trumpet, trombone and 2 saxophones that create a terrific blend of funk sound intertwined with afro-beat rhythms. The group has toured all over Canada and played at the Molson Canadian Hockey House after Canada struck gold in hockey at the Vancouver 2010 olympics.
Anything is Possible will be their third studio album release. The band never ceases to be a dance party. In the album you can hear very world inspired rhythm and melodic lines mixed into Western jazz and funk styles. The result is something that appeals to older jazz fans as well as the younger generation. The 11 track album never ceases to amuse as each track is varied a bit in style and influences. The album starts off with Infernal Monologue which begins with a children’s choir and then moves on to some creepy sounding licks that almost sound like heavy rock. The next track is some straight funk which then moves onto an entire album of very fun and diverse tunes that you should totally check out

Mañana jueves pincho con esta gente en el Clandestino. Yo creo que molará, porque se podrán escuchar cosas brasileñas bastante raras. Suele haber ambientazo, pero me dicen que han arreglado el aire, o sea que ya no debería hacer tanto calor.

)Antes el Clandestino había días que cerraba a las 6 o 7 y un asiático muy simpático te acompañaba hasta la salida trasera a través del almacén.
