De buenas…
1 - Oigan, el de SOFRITO es la polla…
2 - Hago un paréntesis entre tanto sonido africano (más que nada, porque el que tenía previsto todavía no he podido escucharlo como dios manda) para recomendarles, pero de verdad, esta gran recopilación que, sin duda, ha sido uno de los discos más bailados en mi casa el año pasado, palabrita del niño Valderrama
TUMBÉLÉ! : BIGUINE, AFRO & LATIN SOUNDS FROM THE FRENCH CARIBBEAN, 1963-74
20 temazos, uno detrás de otro (o 40, porque cuando termine hay que volverlo a poner), grabados por grupos y bandas de las islas de Guadalupe y Martinica, o sea, el corazón de los departamentos franceses en el Caribe. Por lo tanto, muchas de las piezas están cantadas en criollo francés (una delicia oírlo) e, incluso, hay algunas en “castellano”. Como bien reza el título del artefacto, hay mucho de afro (sobre todo congoleña) , de sonido latino (de Puerto Rico), también influencias de los ritmos de Haití y, cómo no, el sonido propio de esa zona, el fabuloso biguine, una mezcla de todo ello y jazz a la francesa realmente maravillosa. Para mear y no echar ni gotita, todo un festival. Que lo bailen bien.

TAMIKREST - ADAGH
Este es el primer disco de esta joven banda cuyos miembros vienen del norte de Malí. El disco fue grabado en Bamako y su estilo está claramente instalado en el denominado Ishumar rock. Ellos mismos se declaran hijos de Tinariwen y, desde luego, razón no les falta. Suenan muy parecidos y, por supuesto, si a uno le gusta Tinariwen, o otros grupos de este estilo, van a disfrutarlo. La principal diferencia con Tinariwen es que, mientras ellos tienen cuatro voces, Tamikrest solo tiene a Ousmane Ag Mossa a la voz y tareas de composición. Sus canciones, de temática política, se envuelven en un groove atmosféricamente relajado y, en ocasiones (sobre todo gracias a la producción) tenue. Las reverberaciones de las guitarras (excelentes las rítmicas) pintan paisajes que no son difíciles de identificar (sobre todo en “Aratane N'Adagh” una pieza cautivadora) y, creo que también es un rasgo positivo de este disco el buen uso de coros y de los característicos gritos tuareg a cargo de Fatma Walette Cheikhe y Bassa Walette Abdamou. Comentar también que Hugo Race participa con su guitarra en el tema “Toumastin” y que el productor del disco es el miembro de The Walkabouts Chris Eckman (eso ya quiere decir que hay muchas orejas occidentales que están al tanto de lo que hace este grupo).
Si somos un poco quisquillosos, el único pero de este disco es que es excesivamente deudor del sonido Tinariwen, demasiado clónico, aunque estoy completamente seguro que a los miembros de Tamikrest esto se la trae al pairo y bien hecho que hacen. Cosas del pijerio occidental. A descubrir con agrado.

entre estos, Tinariwen y el de Terakaft se puede decir que ya soy medio tuareg.por cierto, ayer hablé con un conocido que había estado en el festivalde desierto y me dijo que es bastante heavy, que hay que ir con alguien que conozca el percal porque si no te puedes encontrar sorpresas desagradables. me contó que unos dias después de volver ellos tres turistas franceses eran asesinados o secuestrados (ahora no recuerdo). balance musical muy positivo pero que a nivel de comodidades realmente exigente.
edit: por cierto, el enlace de mediafire da acceso a todos los archivos subidos y no sé cual es el de Tamikrest.

ETHIOPIQUES VOL. 26 - MAHMOUD AHMED & IMPERIAL BODYGUARD BAND (1972-1974)
No es el primer disco que está ya muy conocida colección dedica a Ahmed. Anteriormente, este cantante protagonizó los volúmenes 6, 7 y 19. Lo que de especial este volumen es que recoge grabaciones realizadas entre los años 1972 y 1974 junto a la Imperial Bodyguard Band, uno de los grupos “oficiales” de Etiopía de esos años. Si uno ya conoce, por anteriores escuchas, el estilo vocal de Ahmed (una voz que se mueve cómodamente en muchos espectros tonales y con una flexibilidad destacable), aquí lo oirá acompañado por una orquesta con vientos, piano y otros instrumentos, atacando un repertorio muy variado que va desde colores jazzy (incluso la sombra de Sun Ra está presente), la canción melódica, el soul y el groove. Buenas muestras de ello son piezas como “Kantchi Gar Kalhone” (como ejemplo de la anteriormente comentada flexibilidad vocal), “Alem Alem” como pieza funky y “Endet Lelefew”, pieza melancólica que sirve para cerrar el disco.
La calidad del sonido de estos temas no son todo lo brillante que estamos acostumbrados pero, demonios, es lo que hay.

12 La Di Da - The Dynamic ConceptsCompilación chachi de 45 r.p.m. de finales de los 60 y principios de los 70, naturalmente editados en sellos de los más raros y que son de esa clase de vinilos de los cuales los dj’s se dejan su pasta y la de sus hijos. Para el aficionado medio, hay nombres que le sonaran bastante: Lee Dorsey, Eddie Bo, Feddy Scott, Freddie Waters y Floyd Morris (que estuvo bastante tiempo en el Young – Holt Trio). Y, claro está, hay otros que ya forman parte en del oscuro mundo del ultra conocedor. También es un misterio el sello que ha editado el cd, solo que se llama PF. No hay más. Cuanto misterio. Eso sí, parece que luego editaron un segundo volumen que, por lo que se ve, está igual de bueno.
La calidad del sonido no es muy buena, pero es aceptable. En el cd no hay ningún tipo de información sobre fechas y todas esas cosas y, creedme, he estado buscando por internet y, en muchos nombres, es un trabajo titánico. Si quereis buscar la información sobre fechas, os podréis tirar un buen rato.

El Planet Funk fue uno de los primeros recopilatorios que me compré de este rollo. así un poco por casualidad y la verdad es que me causó mucha impresión.
Amo "You hit the spot" y "I can't believe I ate the whole thing".
Y, fectivamente, el segundo tampoco tiene desperdicio.
Ah, y esta misma gente editó la serie "Planet of the breaks". Tengo un par y son mierda de la buena.

No me paso casi nunca por este hilo -mal hecho- así que a raíz del concierto de The New Mastersounds creo que empezaré a visitarlo de manera más asidua y para que no sea dicho, también quiero poner mi granito de arena:
The New Mastersounds - Be Yourself (2003)
" On this, their second album, Leed's The New Mastersounds expand upon their pure funk template to include a subtler spectrum of textures. The usual blistering funk is still there, but is augemented by a more relaxed jazz/soul approach.
The opener, "This Ain't Work", is classic Mastersounds, but is then followed by the breezy "Your Love Is Mine", featuring the vocals of the sublime Corinne Bailey Rae. Her approach is reminiscent of Minnie Riperton's soul jazz sound of the early 1970s. This gentle, melodic piece is followed by "Cant Hold Me Down" - a track that punches into the mighty southern funk territory of The Meters.
1960's groovy psychadelia is evoked on "Better Off Dead", guitarist Eddie Roberts' jangling sitar lines float across the top of the rhythm section - prompting recollections of Dave Pikes' 'Mathar'. It's good to hear Roberts playing so many different styles, reminding everyone that whacking out serious funk isnt the only thing he does tastefully well.
The jazz boogaloo rears its well worn head on "Coming Up Roses", but it is beautifully counter balanced by the folky atmosphere of "Barca". The latter evokes the sounds of Ben Sidran and the great, but short lived, jazz/folk crossover scene.
Keysman Bob Birch provides his usual sterling work on the Hammond, as well as stretching out on synthesizer, acoustic and electric piano.
The general intention on "Be Yourself" appears to put a little daylight between the band and the full on deep funk scene . In terms of sounds and song writing, the group display a rootsy but progressive approach that should ensure that they ,and their audience, stay challenged, refreshed & interested. <BBC> "1. "It won't take long – maybe ten seconds into the first cut -- to know that the Meters are a primary influence on the U.K.'s New Mastersounds. The opening title track is such a ringer for "Cissy Strut" that you may check your CD sleeve to see if the discs weren't accidentally swapped. As the album unwinds, though, the all-instrumental quartet reveals more of its own identity: a sort of acid jazz mixed with crisp early-'70s funk grabbed from New Orleans' finest. Certainly drummer Simon Allen has been practicing to his Zigaboo Modeliste records, and it's his attack that principally drives the sound. The interplay between organ and Eddie Roberts' guitar carries the melody, but this band's motor is powered by its formidable rhythm section. Despite the Meters fixation, the New Mastersounds marry a somewhat retro approach with a contemporary spin that makes this fusion perfect for Austin Powers lovers. There is no denying that these guys bring the Southern funk, but the mix of their Brit jazz sensibilities and chops fine-tuned for maximum danceability spins the music in a unique direction. There's also more than a little Booker T. & the MG's here, especially in guitarist Roberts' sparse, choppy leads that echo those of Steve Cropper. What's most impressive, though, is how the band locks together. No member hogs the spotlight as these 14 tightly arranged zingers, most of them hovering just over three minutes, trim off the fatty jam tendencies that often sink similar combos by concentrating on compressed licks that kick out of the speakers with terse precision. The group shifts into pseudo psychedelics on the closing "Paranoid (Is It Any Wonder?)" as Roberts approximates a Cream-era Clapton-styled distortion that doesn't entirely resonate but at least shows a willingness to experiment and push boundaries. A few stabs at a lounge style also come up rather short, but the snappy funk is never more than a track away. Guest reedman Rob Lavers adds some old Crusaders-type horn work on a few songs, assisting a band that's already as in the pocket as they come. -- AMG

"The New Mastersounds hit the Brit-funk scene in 2000, with a stripped-down music that was equal parts Meters groove, the syncopated invention of the J.B.'s' rhythm section, and the good-time feel of prime Booker T. & the MG's. That said, while deeply influenced – to the point of obsession -- with the aforementioned artists, this quartet has put its own stamp on tight, dynamic instrumental funk. On Masterology, the band's musical development is charted from its first single, 2000's "Ode to Bobbie Gentry," right through to "Dusty Groove," from 2009's Ten Years On. Other highlights include -- but are far from limited to -- the woolly psychedelic funk in "La Cova" from their debut concert album, the skittering soul-jazz of "Colorado Sun (Jesse's Backyard)" from 102%, and the break-driven syncopation of "Can't Hold Me Down" from Be Yourself. The punchy guitar groove in "Thermal Bad" from Plug & Play, the shimmering groove in "Idris," and the closing cover of Jack McDuff's "Butter for Yo' Popcorn," from a French single, testify that the New Mastersounds are much more than retro funkateers; they are genuine innovators capable of putting their own stamp on whatever they choose to play. There is an earlier compilation entitled An Introduction to the New Mastersounds, released by Légère Recordings in 2007, but since only three tracks are duplicated, interested parties need have no fear. This set is the better of the two and offers a more well-rounded introduction to the band. -- AMG 4,5/5
