  • A mi me recuerda mucho a algo, todavía no consigo sacar a que, pero cuando me venga a la cabeza me voy a marear seguro. Tampoco tengo claro que sea un disco taaaan pop como dice marniello, esos seis minutazos de under cover, con sus solos, su saxo… en fin, no se.

  • A mi me parece un cruce entre Prefab Sprout (la producción suena ochentera fina) y los acercamientos más pop de Prekop, Prewitt y The Sea & Cake. Under Cover la podría haber firmado el pobre Vini Reilly. Con esos mimbres poco malo se puede hacer…
    Muy elegante, si señor.
    Lo he escuchado un par de veces del tirón y tengo ganas de más.
    Mil gracias por el link!

  • se que a la mayoria os sudara el pene pero seria mucho pedir que al enlazar un disco pusierais al menos la discografica que lo edita? gracias.

    @1trnxg4x:

    Ducktails, the increasingly less "solo" endeavour of Matt Mondanile, is set to release The Flower Lane, which is the project's fourth album and his first for Domino. Recorded and mixed over the summer of 2012 with Al Carlson (Peaking Lights, Oneohtrix Point Never), as Mondanile's hectic schedule as a concurrent member of Real Estate began to wind down after a year in support of their Domino debut album, Days, the ten track album will hit the streets on January 28th to be preceded by the single release of effervescent pop gem, ‘Letter of Intent’.Taking a tangential turn away from solo home-recording of past releases toward the more collaborative environment of the studio, Ducktails' Matt Mondanile roped in close friends and colleagues to make something more adventurous yet easy-going.

    Drag City Records release the new album by Alasdair Roberts & Friends, entitled ‘A Wonder Working Stone’. A collection of varied new epics, Alasdair’s latest is by turns metaphysical, cosmological, phantasmagorical, topical, personal and universal. This is Alasdair’s most ambitious, fully-realized work to date (an extraordinary claim following the incredible excursions made on his recent releases ‘Spoils’ and ‘Too Long In This Condition’).

    @1trnxg4x:

    Hilly Eye is a collaboration between guitarist/vocalist Amy Klein (onetime Titus Andronicus) and drummer/vocalist Catherine Tung. The duo formed in 2009 as a way to experiment with noise and melody. Their favorite band at the time was the Osaka noise band Afrirampo and they wanted to start something like that–a two girl band that was super primal and agressive, but also psychedelic and dreamy. Something really stripped down and raw that could also be beautiful. Alternating between quiet and loud, delicate melodies and big swathes of noise, contrasting elements.

    Yo no digo que sea taaaan pop. Digo que es pop elegante y sofisticado. Con sus vericuetos, vaya. Estoy bastante de acuerdo con las referencias que ha dado Hans Castorp.

    hombre moldy, con estas tampoco era absolutamente necesario, no me lo bajaria aunque lo editara dischord jaja. me referia principalmente a cosas menos obvias como por ejemplo el disco de arbouretum de mas arriba, que de entrada no tenia ni pajotera de donde salian ni de que hacian, pero si me dices que edita thrill jockey pues se me hacen mucho mas apetecibles que si me cuelgas el disco y me tengo que guiar por el nombre del grupo y/o la portada…

    A partir de ahora prometo poner alguna referencia o descripción en todos los discos que cuelgue, aunque ya lo venia haciendo en aquellas cosas "mas raras". Como Arbouretum ya los conocía (creo que los conocí por el foro y ya llevan unos cuantos discos editados), asumí que la gente habitual de aquí también.

  • Gracias por el de Tegan and Sara, justo lo que necesito en un dia como hoy.

    De nada, pero lo he escuchado y la calidad del audio es algo chusquera.

  • oye yo me bajo este último solo porque tiene las letricas así como de psicodelia y tal, pero vamos
    que al menos a los grupos estos "raros" molaría ponerles alguna etiqueta o alguna reseña mínima.

  • Torres – Torres (2013)

    @33gv2ngy:

    Torres, the debut album from 22-year-old Nashville native Mackenzie Scott, has a deceptively charming backstory. Scott’s family pooled their money together to buy the Gibson guitar that is heard on the album. It was recorded live to tape over the course of five days in the home of a Louisiana songwriter. Scott herself is a bright- eyed, beautiful young woman that simply looks happy to have the opportunity to share her music. Given such a pleasant, unassuming foundation, it is a welcome surprise that the album itself is a raw and gripping exploration of our most basic human emotions. Over simple and often sparse arrangem- ents, Scott unleashes her remarkably multi-faceted voice and lets the listener into the intimate moments of her life. She stands confused outside of a strangers house. A man ashes in his coffee. She looks down the face of a waterfall, wondering whether or not to jump. TORRES is a deeply personal record. However, through her stories of fear, heartbreak, inadequacy, and self-acceptance, Scott ultimately speaks to something universal.

    The album opener, “Mother Earth, Father God,” with its languid strings set against distortion and solemn lyrics, quickly establishes TORRES’s diverse range of influences. There are hints of Chan Marshall’s raw recording style and emotional delivery, Joanna Newsom’s lilting flourishes, Alela Diane’s powerful and seductive vocal tone, and Julie Doiron’s juxtaposition of acoustic and electric sounds. It’s a song that portends an album filled with angst ridden americana, driving drum beats, and dark violin solos. However, the album that unfolds after the first track is far more adventurous than the first few minutes suggest. Scott finds her voice immediately and from there in makes bold instrumental decisions that surprise and enrapture, making for a gorgeous patchwork over which her stories are able to come to life.

    pissed jeans / honeys (sub pop, 2013)

    @2aeaatme:

    Age and four full-lengths haven’t mellowed Pissed Jeans; they can still unleash a blare that will exfoliate your cochlea. Formed in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Pissed Jeans released Shallow, their first album, in 2005 on Parts Unknown Records. The band relocated to Philadelphia seven years ago, and Sub Pop released Hope for Men in 2007, and then King of Jeans in 2009. The latter was recorded by Grammy nominee Alex Newport, who also recorded Honeys.

    Age and experience have, however, refined Pissed Jeans. Their ideas and execution have become more subtly focused. The songs on Honeys are direct without being obtuse, evocative without being vague, personal without being indulgent. They also rock like nobody’s business. Forget all the claptrap you’ve heard about other bands delivering the goods. If you want bloodthirsty, you’ve got it… At times Honeys is the sound of being bashed over the head with a snow shovel. At times the band slows down and sounds like waking from a nightmare you can’t quite remember. The songs are catchy, but in a way that would appeal to mental patients who only understand colors.

    Honeys stews on the kind of mundane, niggling things that keep you up late at night. It’s an ode to the misery and shackles of being a responsible adult, and the shame of one’s own narcissism. Pissed Jeans trucks in menacing songs about insecurity, and nobody has ever done it better.
