  • Creative Adult - Psychic Mess (2014)

    @3611oxzp:

    Creative Adult is a four piece band from North Bay, California who formed in 2012. Creative Adult features members of All Teeth, Life Long Tragedy, No Sir, and Purple Mercy. Creative Adult play a dark and unsettling style of music that draws inspiration from several subgenres independent music including punk, grunge, indie rock, and garage rock. After two mind blowing 7", Creative Adult have finally released their debut twelve song LP entitled Psychic Mess. Musically, Creative Adult can be said to be influenced by bands that include Nirvana, Drive Like Jehu, The Wipers, The Men, and even early Who. On Psychic Mess, Creative Adult offer up twelve songs of dark, primitive, and at times even psychedelic sounding punk, grunge, indie rock, and garage rock. Overall, this album is phenomenal and definitely worthy of all the buzz surrounding this band.

  • William Tyler - Lost Colony (Merge)

    @3hcpc47s:

    On April 29, William Tyler will release Lost Colony, the follow-up EP to his critically acclaimed 2013 release Impossible Truth. The limited-edition 12-inch features the new song “Whole New Dude,” a full-band reworking of “We Can’t Go Home Again” from Impossible Truth, and “Karussell,” a cover of a Michael Rother (Neu!) song.

    After over a year of solo touring in support of Impossible Truth, Tyler was excited to write and arrange more for an ensemble: “Including these guys as part of the band has totally transformed the way I look at playing this music because it feels more like family on these songs. I am not hammering away in a private/existential manner all by myself. We tracked it as a band, there were other people to bounce ideas off.

    The 12-inch was recorded and mixed by Joe Pisapia at Middletree Studios in Nashville in late 2013. The full band for this recording is William Tyler on guitar and keyboard; Reece Lazarus (bass guitar); Jamin Orrall (drums, percussion); and Luke Schneider (pedal steel guitar).

    watter / this world (temporary residence, 2014)
    style: ambient/post rock/film score

    ▼ download | 320kbps

    @1zr3wrf9:

    Watter is a new trio made up of close friends and collaborators whose collective pedigree reads like a desert island list of must-haves in experimental rock musicians. Multi-instrumentalists Zak Riles (Grails) and Tyler Trotter are anchored by legendary drummer Britt Walford (Slint, Evergreen) on six genre-defying pieces of monolithic mood music. For Riles and Trotter, it's a chance to dig deeper into the sandbox in which Grails have sculpted many mercurial masterpieces in recent years; for Walford, it's the opportunity to play a substantial role in a new active band for the first time in nearly twenty years. Written, recorded, and produced entirely in the group's collective studios in Louisville, KY, This World is a stunning combination of heady psychedelic rock, vintage cinematic New Age explorations, and sinister Krautrock, performed with seemingly endless stamina. Born out of many late-night jam sessions, many songs also feature fellow Louisville icons – Rachel Grimes (Rachel's) provides several of the album's most sublime moments, and The For Carnation's Todd Cook lays the heavy, bass-driven foundation for the penultimate epic, "Seawater" – as well as a subtle, sinister contribution from legendary King Crimson bassist Tony Levin. This World is the kind of album that inspires renewed wonder in the mysterious powers of Louisville's water supply. It draws impossibly broad inspiration from decades of Eastern and Western folk, rock, ambient, film score, library music, and neoclassical, and masterfully emerges with an ever-enveloping suite perfectly befitting its constantly curious composers.

    ought / more than any other day (constellation, 2014)
    style: art rock/post punk

    ▼ download | 320kbps

    @1gemh7e5:

    Ought's earnest, stately and exuberant post-punk is dextrous, deliberate, unfussy and fluid, with debts to Cap’n Jazz, The Feelies, Lungfish, Gang Of Four and early Talking Heads, among many others. The band shifts from sharp angles and stuttering counterpoint to softer edges and chiming flow, with an economy of elements and fidelity to their basic 4-piece constitution. The instrumental interplay is consistently whipsmart, supple and deceptively simple. Beeler's speak-singing can give way to melancholic melodic croons and ragged, desperate yelps, always driven by sincerity of feeling and connection to his subject matter, whether that's the conundrum of our fractured interiority, or communion with others in our fractured social space – or, for the most part, both.

    king dude / fear (not just religious music, 2014)
    style: black neo-folk

    ▼ download | ~234K VBR | pass : pssd

    @17qz503l:

    As frontman of the incongruously named Seattle neo-folk trio King Dude, T.J. Cowgill crafts bleak ballads exploring the grand dichotomy of good and evil. His compelling imagery and narrative is informed by experience as a self-described Luciferian and acolyte of the occult. King Dude transposes much of black metal's aesthetic qualities to a music that is informed as much by prominent neo-folk acts like Death in June or Sol Invictus as by the drama of early American blues.
