Ronnie Spector renace a los 62 con 'The last of the rock stars'

Ronnie Spector tiene 62 años. Llevados como su amigo Keith Richards lleva los mismos a tenor del poco rostro que dejan ver un sombrero negro, unas gafas negras y una pelambrera negra. The last of the rock stars, con colaboraciones de Richards, Patti Smith, The Raveonettes y The Greenhornes, es sólo su tercer disco en solitario. "Ojalá el público opine que es un triunfo artístico, pero para mí el simple hecho de haberlo editado es un triunfo vital. He esperado toda mi vida adulta para hacer este disco", dice en un hotel de Madrid.
Tráiler del drama de Ronnie. Era la voz principal de The Ronettes. Phil Spector, el hombre más poderoso del pop estadounidense anterior a la British invasion, les produjo Be my baby, Baby I love you y otras cimas de la era de los grupos de chicas. Spector y Ronnie se casaron en 1968. El productor no sólo no lanzó como solista a su esposa sino que la encerró en su mansión de Los Ángeles. "Sus guardaespaldas me impedían hasta ir al colmado. Empecé a ir a clínicas mentales para poder ver a gente", dice Ronnie.

DOMINACIÓN PSICOLÓGICA

Pero Spector la dominaba psicológicamente. Y económicamente. En junio de 1972 Ronnie inició los trámites para divorciarse. Lo que siguió fue una versión caníbal de La guerra de los Rose. La pesadilla continuó tras el divorcio en 1974: que si la pensión, que si Donté, uno de los tres hijos adoptados del matrimonio (Ronnie nunca se interesó por los gemelos Gary y Louis), que si los royaltis de las canciones de The Ronettes, por los que la cantante aún litiga…
"Mi exmarido arruinó mi carrera. Como dice Keith Richards: 'Llegó, vio y te conquistó'", resume Ronnie.
No se puede preguntar a Ronnie sobre Phil Spector. No es necesario hacerlo. La cantante trae una y otra vez a la conversación a su "exmarido", como siempre se refiere a él. Así que a paseo la prohibición. ¿Por qué mantiene el apellido Spector? "Forma parte de mi nombre artístico. Renunciar a él sería empezar de cero". ¿Be my baby sería un número tan bueno sin la producción de Spector? "Claro. La voz es más importante que su muro de sonido".
Tras "mi exmarido", las palabras más repetidas por Ronnie son: "¿Qué estaba diciendo?". Bueno, que en las calles del Harlem Hispano donde creció "se mezclaban las armonías de los grupos negros de doo-wop y las percusiones de los conjuntos latinos". Que las Ronettes copiaron su imagen y actitud de las chicas negras del barrio: "Era increíble cómo tiraban el cigarrillo al suelo y lo aplastaban con sus zapatos de tacón. Por su culpa fumo tanto". Que el público del Apollo Theatre, donde cantó en veladas amateurs, era tan duro que algunos artistas "salían a escena como si fueran a la cámara de gas". Que en un bolo de las Ronettes en una base norteamericana en Alemania los soldados empezaron a simular orgasmos... **"Janis Joplin Movie: Pink, Britney, Johansson, or Lohan?"

Hollywood stars including PINK, LINDSAY LOHAN, ZOOEY DESCHANEL, SCARLETT JOHANSSON and BRITNEY SPEARS are battling it out to see who will land the coveted role of JANIS JOPLIN in a new biopic. Director PENELOPE SPHEERIS has already met with Pink, Lohan and Deschanel and still wants to speak with Johansson. The film, titled THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JANIS, will chronicle the life of the 1960s blues singer, who was known for her outrageous performances. Spheeris says, "(Pink) would be my first choice, but she may have scheduling conflicts." Pink's rep confirms, "She would do just about anything to be part of that project!" Regarding Spears, Spheeris says, "Her agent asked if I could meet with her. Music ability is important, but most of all, the actress must have the spirit of Janis. "Each of the actresses who has expressed interest in the role (would) bring her own special talents to the part." The film would start shooting in September (06) and would go head-to-head with another movie on Joplin, PIECES OF MY HEART, starring RENEE ZELLWEGER.

Michael Hutchence Biopic

The team that developed "I, Lucifer", producing partners Richard Hewitt and Clark Westerman, have reportedly partnered with director Nick Egan on an as of yet untitled Michael Hutchence biopic reports The Hollywood News.

The departed INXS frontman and Egan were good pals, with Egan designing the INXS "X" album cover, directed videos for the band, as well as vids for Kylie, Oasis, Bon Jovi, Rancid, and Alanis Morissette and Duran Duran.

Todd Gilmer Productions will also be developing the pic apparently, no word yet as to how much of Hutchence's life the project will cover and who else is involved at present.

ROCKER Lenny Kravitz will play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic about the legendary guitarist's life.

The movie is being produced by Hendrix family friend Elle Von Lear.
The movie will use the original recordings and expose new details about the counter-culture hero's 1970 death in London.

¡Joder! Yo es que no me inclinaría, ¡por ni una! Bueno, tal vez, la que hizo de Reagan en El Exorcista. No sé por qué, me la ha recordado ésa foto que nos ha dejado Madam Green. No por nada, ¿eh? Que yo adoraba a Janis Joplin…

Lo de Kravitz, me parece una broma de mal gusto... Aunque, mirándolo bien, tampoco se trata de ninguna barbarie... Es ¿músico? (al menos lo intenta), es negro, y..., nada más. No sé... Tampoco me imagino a nadie en su papel... Empiezan a cansarme las películas de los grandes mitos musicales. ¿Se ha puesto de moda ó qué?. Es cómo haber leido un buen libro, ver su adaptación en la gran pantalla, y darte cuenta que la han fastidiado. No siempre pasa pero, cuándo así sucede, ¡qué chasco! CONVOCATORIO OFF LEM 2006

De acuerdo con el convenio establecido entre Gràcia Territori Sonor, la Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE) y la Xarxa de Músiques de Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya esta es la convocatoria para la sección OFF del LEM 2006.

A continuación, os explicamos las bases para participar en la convocatoria:

1. Esta convocatoria se dirige a músicos y grupos que quieran dar a conocer su trabajo en el campo de la experimentación sonora, que estén en proceso de profesionalización, que no hayan publicado discos hasta la fecha de esta convocatoria y que residan en el estado español.

2. Los criterios de selección de los proyectos se atienen a la originalidad y a la innovación artística, así como a la adaptabilidad de los mismos para ser presentados en público con un equipo de audio estándar.

3. De todos los proyectos presentados una comisión formada por 7 personas elegirá uno para cada uno de los tres ámbitos en que se divide la convocatoria. Cada uno de ellos obtendrá una residencia.

4. Ámbitos de la convocatoria:

a) finalización: se dará apoyo a un proyecto sonoro que precise ser concluido en estudio mediante postmasterización, postproducción, etc.

b) formación: se dará apoyo a un proyecto sonoro cuyo creador precise completar elementos de formación técnica relacionados con el proyecto.

c) difusión: se dará apoyo a un proyecto sonoro que se encuentre en la situación de necesitar actuaciones en directo para darlo a conocer.

5. Residencias:

a) la residencia del ámbito de finalización consiste en el uso de los estudios de grabación y postproducción audio que se encuentran en las sedes de SGAE de Barcelona, Madrid o Valencia, de acuerdo con la proximidad a su ciudad, con la asistencia de un técnico, por un total de 40 horas, en octubre de 2006.

b) la residencia del ámbito de formación consiste en el acceso a los cursos de formación que se impartan en cualquiera de las sedes de SGAE en España, por un total de 90 horas, entre los meses de abril y septiembre de 2006.

c) la residencia del ámbito de difusión consiste en un concierto en la Fira de Música al Carrer de Vilaseca en Mayo 2007 y la realización de un mínimo de 3 conciertos en las salas que forman parte de la Xarxa de Músiques de Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya, durante el segundo semestre de 2007.

d) los tres proyectos seleccionados se presentarán en directo durante el Festival LEM, en Barcelona, entre el 5 y el 29 de octubre de 2006, en lugares y fechas por confirmar, y constituirán la sección OFF del mismo.

6. Plazo de la convocatoria y documentación que hay que adjuntar: la fecha límite para enviar los proyectos que quieran optar a esta convocatoria es el día 15 de abril de 2006. Hay que adjuntar biografía artística, breve sinopsis escrita del proyecto y un cd audio con la música que el artista esté realizando en la actualidad.
Es necesario también especificar a cuál de los tres ámbitos de residencia opta la propuesta.

New 22 Pistepirkko EP on Bad Afro

Bad Afro’s affection for the Finnish rock scene is well known. In the past we have released The Flaming Sideburns, Sweatmaster, Slideshaker, The Ultra Bimboos and many more and now 22 Pistepirkko joins the list. A new EP will see the light of day May 8th by one of the most popular Finnish bands outside their home country.

The EP will include a re-mastered version of their first 7” in English called “Ou Wee”. This single was originally released in 1986 on Pygmi Records and is today a collectors items. It was the first time they used English vocals and they kept that tradition for the Kings of Hong Kong album from 1987 and have been doing so ever since.

The EP will also include the very first recordings by The Others a.k.a. 22PP. The Others are 22 Pistepirkko’s garage rock alter ego who play covers of personal favourites like The Troggs, Velvet Underground and Hank Williams. The style is primitive and wild. Old instruments, vintage R&R sound. Here they cover three Link Wray tunes: “Scatter”, “Law of the Jungle” and “Zipcode”.

The Others a.k.a. 22PP will release their debut album in late May on the own label Bone Voyage Recording Company and there are plans for a tour in late spring. The band was originally only called The Others but since there was a crap UK band by the same name they had to change it to The Others a.k.a. 22PP.

The 22 Pistepirkko EP will be released May 8th along with the new On Trial album “Forever” and the upcoming The Flaming Sideburns compilation “Back To The Grave”.

'Everything Is Closer' is a co-release by M4S and BIG BLUE RECORDS.

About the album 'Out of a warm, acoustic jazz atmosphere springs a
cold, sequenced synth pattern. Full throttle drumming and raunchy
double sax blurts turn into minimal glitches. Raw hiphop beats are
shaded by eerie, floating electro-acoustic soundscapes.'

On their debut CD 'Everything Is Closer', STRANGE ATTRACTOR grazes the
edges of jazz, ambient and soulful electronica, combining NIELS VAN
HOORN's unique approach to bass clarinet and impressive arsenal of
saxophones and other acoustic and electronic wind instruments and
effects with the arranging and production skills of RICHARD VAN
KRUYSDIJK, who is also responsible for all other instruments
(keyboards, drums, electronics, etc.) and cover artwork.

Broken beat lovers will appreciate the versatile rhythmic drive,
sometimes complex, but always dedicated to the groove, whereas ambient
fans are treated to some lush textures, delicately woven by electronica
and a wide range of (manipulated) brass and wood wind instruments.

On top of this, special guest vocals by such diverse singers as Edward
Ka-Spel (The Legendary Pink Dots), Richard Sinclair (Caravan, Hatfield
& the North) and Marie-Claudine Vanvlemen (Sonar Lodge) add even more

Daniel Johnston se despide de los escenarios con un nuevo disco para Sketchbook/ Houston Party

El 2 de mayo se publica “Lost & Found” (Sketchbook/Houston Party), el nuevo disco de Daniel Johnston. Se trata de una de las obras más impactantes de su carrera. Como siempre, su temática se centra en el amor: el bueno, el malo y el indiferente. La actualidad informativa del californiano residente en Texas no acaba aquí. La aparición del disco coincide con la comercialización de la película “The Devil And Daniel Johnston”, que compitió en la categoría de documentales en los últimos Oscar y ha sido premiada en la última edición del festival de Sundance. Ha sido descrita como “un retrato de locura, creatividad y amor”. En marzo empezó a exhibirse en cines estadounidenses. Por otro lado, se han organizado dos exposiciones, en un museo y una galería neoyorquinas, sobre las pinturas y dibujos de Daniel. Finalmente, el 14 de abril se celebra en Londres un concierto especial, de homenaje a Johnston, en el que varios de sus fans del gremio musical compartirán escenario con él: de momento está confirmada la presencia de Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse), Jason Pierce (Spiritualized) y Jad Fair.

Neil Hannon returns as The Divine Comedy in June with the follow up to 2004’s ‘Absent Friends’. ‘Victory For The Comic Muse’ will be released on Parlophone on June 19th. This will be preceded by a new single on June 12th.

The album was recorded virtually live in the studio over a period of two weeks in late 2005. Modern recording techniques were set aside in favour of analogue tape and as few microphones as possible. The entire project was arranged and produced by Neil himself and features many long-standing Divine Comedy collaborators.

Neil will be touring Europe with an 8-piece band in May. The dates are:
