The new album from Matmos finds the dynamic duo taking a holiday from conceptual responsibility, skipping the outré sampling antics in favor of a lighthearted "cosmic pop" record made entirely out of synthesizers. Leave it to Matmos to invent a hard and fast rule that they have to follow even when they're just having fun: the creative restriction this time around is that Supreme Balloon is an ALL synthesizer album and no microphones were used at any point.
That's right, no household objects played in a percussive manner, no snails or blood or amplified semen, no acoustic instruments, no voices of famous people for five seconds, not even any half-way cheating with Vocoders, just synthesizers of all shapes, sizes, eras and nationalities being snipped, folded and reshuffled by an arsenal of samplers and computers into colorful sound-origami.

Pues porque ellos dicen que es nuevo, porque es la prueba palpable (una más) que Douglas P. hace años que no rasca bola. Los tres acordes de guitarra siguen presentes erre que erre, la producción sigue siendo la misma, todos los ticks son repetición de repetición. Y, encima, sus discos son carísimos en las tiendas.
Seguro que hasta Tibet lo ha dejado por imposible.

hombre, a mi también me ha chafado un poco que no fueran más canciones del rollo del disco pero tanto como cutre… de todas maneras no sorprende porque la mitad del segundo EP que hicieron el año pasado (y sigue siendo el único sitio donde encontrar poor man's daughter que es tremenda) ya era dub instrumental del mismo palo.

The self-titled debut begins in no uncertain fashion with the epic Planet. It’s at once beautifully grandiose, and wholly understated, an enchanting opener. Over layer upon layer of delicate, delay soaked guitar melodies, the breathy vocals drift, and the bass pounds along to a strong rhythm that builds as the song progresses.
It is, however, the second track, Boundaries that is the first standout point of the album. The song is built around a fragile, beautiful guitar melody, that ripens, swells, and bursts into a throbbing, unashamedly stunning piece of music. With guitar and piano melodies so entwined as to be inseparable.
It’s clear from the off that this Leicester five-piece have a lot of balls. All too often debut albums are tentative forays into bandwagon-joining, substanceless, scene-fucking blandness. But with more than half the songs clocking in at well over the six minute mark, and with a sound shamelessly epic, Kyte are not about to be rushed, and none of the above adjectives could conceivably be attributed to them.
