Beck - Beck Covers Alexander "Skip" Spence's Oar (feat. Wilco, Jamie Lidell & Feist)

Alexander "Skip" Spence's album Oar is the latest entry in Beck's Record Club project. For this one Beck was joined by Wilco, Jamie Lidell and Feist. Standouts from this session include the opener "Little Hands," the funky "Cripple Creek," Feist performing "Weighted Down," and Jamie Lidell's soulful vocals on the groovin' jam "Book of Moses."

African Head Charge | Vision Of Psychedelic Africa(On U Sound 2010.)

@2ngxpure:
UK dub guru Adrian Sherwood and adventurous percussionist Bonjo I have been releasing their sonic experiments as African Head Charge since the early 1980s. Although their 1986 album Off the Beaten Track (best known through the Great Vintage CD compilations) is an essential item in any progressive dub collection, some of their later works have been less groundbreaking than other projects in the sprawling On U Sound catalogue.
Their latest was released in Japan (where Sherwood is revered by dub and electronica nerds) five years ago; now that it's finally available worldwide, we can see how it expands their youthful vision into a mature collage of deep sounds attempting to gloss the title quote from Bush of Ghosts–era Eno. The many discerning acidheads who have come down to the calming repetitions of the early material should beware: the 21st-century Charge deal mostly in disorientation and trance-disrupting elements.
These are not the precocious, blunted soundtracks of 1981's My Life in a Hole in the Ground. Still, handle with care and you'll enjoy the head trip with two ace shamans as guides.
Bonjo I A Binghi Noah and Adrian Sherwood first worked together on live shows with Prince Fari and Creation Rebel in the late 1979/1980 period. Bonjo I had come to England from Jamaica. He was raised in the hills in a rasta community and was a percussionist since childhood. He studied not only Rasta drums but also African, Afro Cuban Rhythms and he loved to experiment.
1981 saw the release of Brian Eno’s ‘My Life in the Bush of Ghosts’. Upon hearing the Eno album Adrian then read an interview with him where he talked of “having a vision of a psychedelic Africa”. This fascinated Adrian and along with Bonjo I and some other musicians started some experimental recordings in an underground (literally) studio called Berry Street in Clerkenwell, London. These recordings resulted in “My Life in a Hole in the Ground” 1981/2.
The title was poking fun at Eno’s title and us a the same time as we were sopending most of our lives in the studio beneath the city streets. We the named the studio band African Head Charge as it seemed to fit the concept inspired by Brian Eno.
Three more experiemental studio albums followed ‘Environmental Studies’, ‘Drastic Season’ and ‘Off the Beaten Track’ before African Head Charge became a proper gigging band.
The live shows were excellent and featured Perry Melius on drums (Tricky), Wayne Nunes on bass, Zap on keyboards (Eddie Grant) and Renee (Dub Syndicate/Ijahman) on guitar fronted by band leader Bonjo I A Binghi Noah.
This band alongside co-producer Skip McDonald (Little Axe, Sugarhill & Tackhead) worked on the band’s final two studio albums with Adrian Sherwood – ‘Songs of Praise’ in 1991 and ‘In Pursuit of Shashamane Land’ in 1993.
In 1994 Bonjo I left London and moved to Ghana where he still lives now. The dream of every Rastaman is to move back to Africa. Bonjo fulfilled his dream and as far as African Head Charge goes the first album for over a decade is now due for release. Regarded as the finest album ever it is called, not surprisingly ‘Vision of Psychedelic Africa’.

Rafter - Animal Feelings 2010.

Based on experimental artist Rafter Roberts’ usual goofiness, the title for his new album, Animal Feelings, could seem like more of a silly reference than a sexy one; 2007’s Music for Total Chickens was certainly not an album for switching on the water jets. But actually, Roberts is earnestly soulful with this new effort. Justin Timberlake, Cody Chesnutt and R. Kelly are given props alongside Koji Kondo (a Nintendo composer) and New-Wavers Tom Tom Club to offer an R&B affectation. Such elements as the Jackson 5 bassline of “Feels Good” and the auto-tuned massage music “No Fucking Around” both suggest romance and desire. Roberts is probably still too nerdy to make any presumptions that he’s bringing sexy back – but you could at least say that he's bringing it weird.
