Stanislas Tohon & le Tchink System (1979)
@138u7j9d:
Bastante temarral.

mavis staples / one true vine (anti/epitaph, 2013)
@1m8n71qb:
On their second collaboration, legendary singer Mavis Staples and Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy have crafted a gospel album for the 21st century, a music that strives for faith in a world where nothing can be taken for granted. On One True Vine, Mavis Staples gives voice to something new in her repertoire, something deeper and more resonant with our times; longtime fans will notice a new reserve in her singing, a muted, plaintive quality that serves the darker, more nuanced songs collected here perfectly. If her Stax hits spoke for a growing black social consciousness, and her seventies collaborations with the Band and others gave spiritual weight to the rediscovery of tradional American music, then in our post-millenial drift, Jeff Tweedy has crafted a pulpit from which Mavis lends her voice to a search for grace.

myron & e with the soul investigators / broadway (stones throw, 2013)
@1m8n71qb:
The vocal duo is something of a rarity. There have been countless solo stars, trios, quartets and quintets, but the pairing of equally talented singers isn’t nearly as common. Sam and Dave, Ashford and Simpson, the Righteous Brothers and the Everly Brothers comprise a short list of standouts. Enter Myron & E.
Myron & E are proud to be releasing their debut album, Broadway, this summer. For the album, the Soul Investigators provided demos from overseas with the duo stationed on the west coast writing the lyrics and singing all the vocals. E, in particular, has a practice of sending YouTube links of classic soul and R&B songs to the band to provide inspiration for recreating that vibe. One such link was to Edwin Starr’s “Running Back and Forth.” The Soul Investigators responded with “Everyday Love.”

etran finatawa / the sahara sessions (riverboat, 2013)
@27kw38cg:
The Sahara Sessions was recorded deep in the desert. Sheltered only by an animal-skin tent and the vast canopy of midnight stars, Etran Finatawa played their guitars and sang straight from the heart. Each poignant song and everyslap of the calabash drum articulating the deep set divisions in the Sahel region that are threatening their Nomad way of life. Simmering political troubles and excruciating economic hardship pose a dangerous threat to the nomadic way of life and the rich cultures of Niger. Divining their solution to these issues, Etran Finatawa celebrate their diverse heritage and call for its preservation to be a priority for Nigeriens and listeners the world over.

vvaa / dub club - foundation dub v.2: bubble dub (stones throw, 2013)
@i4q5blre:
Bubble Dub was mixed live to tape in one take by Chasteen. The dubs were made the classic way, improvising in the moment, twisting knobs, pushing faders, reshaping a song with echo, reverb, space and time. Chasteen says, “Dub is not just a contest to create the heaviest ever bassline, but a subtle carving away at a piece of music. The dubs on this record also keep one foot in the dancehall, where dub where was born and raised."

steve arrington & dam-funk / higher (stones throw, 2013)
@3bttepgm:
Higher brings together the master of modern boogie, Dam-Funk (aka Damon Riddick), with a veteran of the soul-funk-disco hey-day, former Slave singer Steve Arrington. The album, released on August 6 via Stones Throw Records, finds Riddick on the tracks and Arrington on the vocals and lyrics. If Arrington’s name doesn’t sound familiar, you’ve likely heard his work, as he’s been sampled on tracks from hip-hop’s elite, including Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Snoop Dogg, N.W.A. and many others. His music has had a massive influence on music from G-funk era hip-hop to house, so it makes sense that vocoder madman Dam Funk would approach Arrington to collaborate on an album. Though he left the music industry in 1990, the singer is dedicated to this new project, hard at work on practising with a full band for an upcoming tour.
